MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hope everyone had a great time at the Young Lawyers' Happy Hour at Nightshop last Friday and a big thank you to the Committee for organizing.
 
In the week ahead, we have little by way of Bar activities, but I am certain that our MCBA Committees remain active and busy.
 
Reminder: The August 20th CLE Luncheon will be presented by Senator Jason Barickman, AN OVERVIEW OF THE CANNABIS REGULATION AND TAX ACT. This will offer a 1 hour general CLE credit. Please check the Enewsletter below for registration.

The McLean County Bar Association cordially invites you to attend a presentation on the Overview of the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. This event is presented by Illinois State Senator and MCBA member, Jason Barickman. Senator Barickman will present conflicts between Illinois and Federal Law, regulation of possession and consumption, licensing, expungement and much more.

for Prairie State Legal Services
at Bruegala

Prairie State Legal Services is a 2019 Bruegala Charity partner. Bruegala will take place on August 16-17. Please volunteer to help Prairie State Legal Services to set up or serve beverages to the Bruegala attendees. Each volunteer sign-up slot is around 2-3 hours. As a volunteer, you will receive free admission and a tasting glass for the night you volunteer. If you have questions, please contact Adrian Barr at abarr@pslegal.org

Bruegala is a charity beer and wine festival run by the Bloomington-Normal Jaycees. The 20th annual Bruegala will be held on Friday, August 16th and Saturday, August 17th at the Corn Crib. Bruegala offers over 100 craft beer samples, more than 50 wines, a variety of food vendors, music and more throughout the two-day event. In the past 5 years, more than 20,000 people have attended Bruegala and the event has raised over $220,000 for local organizations. The money raised at this event directly impacts the residents of Bloomington-Normal and surrounding McLean County!

Summary of Teleconference:
Marriage dissolution, and the financial obligations that often flow from it, has become so prevalent that a client's planning for this possibility is sometimes nearly as important as his or her core estate planning instruments. Thus, marital agreements, especially among those who have been through divorce, are becoming an essential component of some clients’ financial security. These agreements must be closely coordinated with the client's estate plan.
