MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTThere has been a slight change in the schedule for Family Day this Sunday at the Corn Crib. Due to a scheduling error by the Cornbelters we will only be able to have the Corn Crib from 1pm to 3:30pm, not 2-6pm as previously stated. I’ve also made an executive decision and have decided that the name of our softball team will be the “Bad News Barristers.” As much as I loved the “International Shoes,” the Barristers seemed to have much more support. Please come out and cheer on your Bar Association’s team and have a great time with your family!
Don’t forget to sign up for the annual meeting to be held on June 18th at Bloomington Country Club. You can sign up below. Have a great week and Go Barristers! Paul Lawrence Dear Friends and Colleagues:
As the Central Region Co-Chair of the historic 100-woman Statewide Women’s Justice Task Force, I am writing to invite you to attend a Community Listening and Recommendations Session, entitled “Redefine the Narrative,” on Wednesday, June 5th from 12-2 pm at the McLean County YWCA, 1201 North Hershey Road, Bloomington. The purpose of the session is to bring community leaders together to dialogue on the unique risks, strengths and challenges of justice-involved women in our communities; and to identify ways to disrupt their trajectories to prison through impactful interventions that reduce harm and improve well-being among them, their children and families. Despite recent progress in crime prevention throughout McLean County and the state, nearly 50% of all Illinois counties have faced a troubling trend: increases in arrests and incarceration among women, particularly among rural communities, directly linked to intergenerational histories of sexual and domestic abuse, trauma and related substance use, mental illness and parental/family stress. I encourage you to RSVP in advance and invite friends and colleagues from your organization to attend and either participate in the conversation or submit written recommendations only (forms will be distributed that day). The event is free. Tickets and more information can be found at this LINK. Sincerely, Rebecca Foley For more information on the involved organizations, please click on the artwork and/or logo.
