Alexandra Williams is an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Drug Unit of the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office. She came to the office after graduating from Southern Illinois University School of Law in May of 2023. She prosecutes cases ranging from simple possessions to drug trafficking cases. In one of her recent trials, the jury returned a guilty verdict on a controlled substance trafficking case where the defendant trafficked 233 pounds of cocaine across several state lines. The defendant was sentenced to 75 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Additionally, she helped prosecute a first-degree murder case where the jury returned a guilty verdict. Aside from being a criminal prosecutor, she also handles the asset forfeiture cases in the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Prior to becoming an Assistant State’s Attorney, Alexandra was an intern in the McLean County State’s Attorney’s Office Drug Unit during the summer of 2021. During the summer of 2022, she came back to the Drug Unit and worked with her 711 license. She conducted her first jury trial while still in law school. She received the 2023 SIU Student Distinguished Service Award from the Southern Illinois University Board of Trustees as well as the Outstanding Service Award from the SIU Graduate and Professional Student Council.

Alexandra received the McLean County Bar Association Scholarship as a 3L and has served on the Scholarship Committee since graduation. She also participated in the McLean County Bar Association Mentorship program and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.

Please help us congratulate Alexandra for being selected as the recipient of the 2026 McLean County Bar Association’s Young Lawyer of the Year Award. The award will be presented at the June 25th Annual Meeting.

Jack Cornelius Vieley, 85, passed away at 9:39 pm Monday, June 22, 2026 at his home in Bloomington, IL.

Jack was born May 21, 1941 in Pontiac, IL the son of Jack G. and Eva A. Ward Vieley. He attended Owego Grade School and Pontiac Twp. High School, and graduated from the University of Illinois with an undergraduate degree in accounting and a Juris Doctor degree. He had a law office in Peoria, IL, and then moved it to Bloomington, IL. He enjoyed his work as an attorney and was still practicing law at the time of his death.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and several cousins. He is survived by his three daughters, Jill (Scott) Dacus, Jo (Eric) Elwood, and Jennifer Vieley, his grandchildren, Jennifer, Cole, Kristen, Dana, Sophia, and Julian, and twin great granddaughters, Daisy and Delilah Henning. He is also survived by one brother, Larry (Marilyn) Vieley, and nephews, Jonathan and Matthew Vieley, and his devoted partner, Delena Rhodes.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 am Wednesday, July 1, 2026 followed by his funeral service at the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury. Pastor Charles Mendoza will officiate. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.

Jack loved music. Whether he was playing his accordion at square dances or the piano and organ in his Jack Vieley Band, Jack enjoyed life to the fullest. And if you invited him for dinner, and if there were a piano in the house, you were sure to get a concert before dinner was served. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing and spent many hours taking lessons, practicing in his dance studio, and waltzing with his partner Delena. We will remember him as a man who loved the law, loved helping people, loved spreading joy with his music, loved farming and loved to laugh.

The family suggests memorials be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

After nearly 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Bloomington, George Boyle will retire on July 10, 2026. Since joining the City as Assistant Corporation Counsel in 2007, George has played a vital role in shaping policies, advising City leaders, drafting ordinances, and helping ensure fair and effective local government. Prior to his service with the City, George spent 17 years with Prairie State Legal Services, including nine years as Managing Attorney, where he focused on family, housing, and consumer law while advocating for some of the community’s most vulnerable residents. Throughout his career, George has been known for his deep legal knowledge, commitment to fairness, and unwavering dedication to public service, becoming a trusted advisor and institutional anchor within the organization. Colleagues have long appreciated not only his expertise and willingness to help others, but also the perspective and creativity he brings as a lifelong musician who has been playing drums in a band since 1969. George’s contributions have left a lasting mark on the City of Bloomington, and he will be deeply missed by coworkers, community partners, and all who have had the privilege of working alongside him.  We wish him the best in his next chapter.

Greetings from the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee,
 
We are seeking attorney volunteers for the upcoming Legal Advice Fair at the MCCA in Bloomington on Saturday, July 18 from 8:30 am - Noon.
 
The Legal Advice Fair is similar to a big legal advice Help Desk. Financially eligible clients will register in advance and be assigned an appointment time. PILI will do our best to match clients with attorneys based on attorneys’ practice area and experience for 45 minute appointments. PILI can provide malpractice coverage for attorney volunteers. Coffee and breakfast will be provided thanks to McDonalds!

For more than twenty years, Matthew Koetters has dedicated his career to standing beside people at some of the most difficult moments of their lives. His work with the McLean County Public Defender’s Office — including five years as First Assistant — shaped his belief that strong advocacy, fairness, and compassion are essential parts of justice.


After two decades of public defense work, Matthew recently joined Bruno Law Offices, where he continues to focus on criminal defense. The move allows him to bring his courtroom experience, motion practice, and client-centered approach to a new setting while continuing to serve the people of Central Illinois.


Matthew has lived in Bloomington–Normal since 2006, where he and his wife are raising their family. Outside the courtroom, he can usually be found at a ball field, a church event, or volunteering with local organizations. He considers it a privilege to serve a community that has supported him both professionally and personally.

Please join the McLean County Bar Association in welcoming Jackie Mathias-Jail R.E.S.E.T. (Recovery, Education, Support and reEntry Team) Director McLean County Jail and Hon. David Butler [Ret.]-Special Assistant Public Defender for McLean County.
 
This program will provide a guide of the credits that may be applied to reduce a criminal sentence.  The amount of time served on a criminal sentence may be significantly reduced by various forms of sentence credit available under Illinois law.  Attorneys should be familiar with the credits that may be applied to a sentence when negotiating a plea agreement or deciding on whether to go to trial.  Both defense attorneys and prosecutors will gain an awareness of the sentence credits that are possible for particular sentences.
