CONGRATULATIONS!
The Normal West Mock Trial team competed against a pool of 56 schools from across Illinois in the state tournament and come home STATE CHAMPIONS! While the Normal West program earned 2nd in state three years ago and 3rd in state last year, this is only the second time that a 'downstate' team has EVER won the state competition. This is the first in Normal West history!
The Normal West Mock Trial team will now compete in the National competition as the sole high school team from the State of Illinois! The team will be traveling to Nationals in May. While this is an exciting opportunity for budding attorneys, there are several expenses ahead of them associated with the upcoming National competition. They need support from the community.
If you are intersted in supporting, please see the information below.

church or tax exempt organization
A Small church community with just a few older members are seeking options. Below are some of the questions.
1. Does tax exempt status require a certain number of members?
2. If we did have to close where and to whom leave property and any funds?
3. We have two trusts left to the church. What do we do if closes or pass on to another church?
4. Our bylaws are in need of an update.

The Rule of Law and the American Dream
Most Americans have their own ideas about the American Dream, but whether their focus is on aspirations such as political liberty, social equality, personal security, or economic opportunity, they all rely on the rule of law. The rule of law—the idea that no person is above the law—is what ensures the rights of the people to live their lives as freely as possible and to pursue their dreams.
The rule of law ensures that people will not be imprisoned or punished without due process, will be free to pursue their economic interests, and will be secure in their homes and property. In short, the rule of law is essential to the freedom and prosperity that Americans have aspired to throughout the nation’s history. The ABA encourages all Americans to recognize Law Day on May 1, 2026, and to reflect on how the rule of law ensures all Americans have the ability to fulfill their dreams.

Please plan to join the McLean County Bar Association's Law Day Luncheon on Wednesday, May 6th at noon.

Traffic Stops & Motor Vehicles Searches
Presented by: Hon. David Butler (Ret.) & Matthew Butler
[up to 1.5 hours general CLE - Approved]
Evidence of a crime is often found by police during the search of a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. Items found during the search may be illegal contraband, such as drugs or weapons, or evidence of another crime. What starts out as a minor traffic violation can turn into a search of the vehicle to investigate evidence of crimes unrelated to the traffic stop. This CLE program presents an examination of the various legal bases for the police to conduct a motor vehicle search and the possible legal challenges to the search. Attorneys who either defend or prosecute criminal cases involving the possession of contraband will be better able to recognize evidentiary issues related to criminal charges arising out of traffic stops and motor vehicle searches.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED ARE:
Lawful basis of traffic stops
“Out of the Car” Drivers and Passengers
Search of Persons in the Vehicle
Search of Vehicles
Probable Cause Searches
