DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION IN THE MCBA
THE PATH FORWARD

[1 PR-Diversity & Inclusion CLE CREDIT - APPROVED]
Please join the McLean County Bar Association in welcoming speakers to address Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the legal profession. This presentation has been organized by the MCBA Underwood Committee. John Kim, Commissioner, Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, will open the presentation with a brief presentation regarding the basics of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion [DEI] in the legal profession. This will include a description of key terms. The presentation will then move on to a panel discussion that will focus on how practitioners can integrate DEI into their practices.  Mr. Kim will be followed by a panel discussion that will include Adrian Barr, Managing Attorney, PSLS, Judge Pablo Eves and Judge Carla Barnes.
Registration

Thank you for participating in the spring and summer events survey.

The consensus of results revealed our members would like to resume Breakfast with the Bar later this year, preferably outdoors. Please email your outdoor seating preferences for that gathering to Mary and we will reserve a suitable space for Fridays from 8-9 a.m. starting June 4th, 2021.

Our first event is on Thursday, May 6th from 5-8 pm. More information is provided below.

Sincerely, Michael and Nargis

, 2021
5:00 PM - 8:00 pm
LOCATION - DESTIHL BREWERY - BARREL ROOM
1200 GREENBRIAR DR, NORMAL

Our first event is on Thursday, May 6th from 5-8 pm. We are gathering in honor of Law Day at Destihl Brewery, where will have the Barrel Room reserved with appetizers spread buffet style, along with drink tickets for beer and wine (2 tickets per person).

The room seats 190 people and was the largest indoor space we could reserve to maximize a socially distant gathering. A picture of the inside space is shown above as you weigh your comfort level in attending. We will have sit down seating as well as barrel cocktail tables for those who prefer to stand.

We are encouraging white attire in celebration of women's suffrage which was the theme of last year's cancelled Law Day event.

Please pre-register by Monday, April 26th so we can give the restaurant a head count for food and to space out tables in the safest layout.

Hope to see you there!
Registration closes at 4:30 pm on Monday, April 26.
Limited seating.
FREE to membership - Registration is Required as seating is limited

eviction moratorium extended
to may 1
Rental Assistance

The Illinois eviction moratorium is extended to May 1, 2021 with the information at this LINK.

People who are behind in their rent, mortgage, or utility payments should apply for assistance now. The best way to start this process is to call 211 to find out the best place to apply based on their unique circumstances.

Currently, the most likely source of assistance is through the Town of Normal (if the person lives in Normal) or the City of Bloomington (if the person lives in Bloomington). Please see the flyer listed below under Eviction Resources. Please distribute it widely. If you have case management services, please provide tenants with assistance gathering documents so that they can submit a complete application. We have seen a majority of applications be rejected due to incomplete documentation.

People seeking assistance should not call me. They should call 211 or follow the instructions on the attached flyer. If you or your staff have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
