mentors neededInvest in the next generation of attorneys! The McLean County Bar Association Mentoring Program is seeking Mentors for several new lawyers in McLean County.
See what Retired Circuit Judge Elizabeth Robb says about her experience as Mentor: “When mentor attorneys were requested I decided to sign up. As a retired judge, I don't have recent experience as a practicing attorney, but I was feeling disconnected from the local bar and had time to spare so I agreed to be a mentor to a new attorney in our county. I am enjoying this experience very much. My mentee and I meet monthly for lunch and use the guide provided by the program to talk about important issues that attorneys confront in their daily practice. Our first meeting was great--we took the opportunity to learn more about each other before embarking on the guided program. I have learned a lot about how the practice of law has changed since my days as a new attorney in the early 1980s. I really believe that it is important to "give back" to my profession and to the local bar and the mentor program is a great way to do that, while also connecting with a new attorney. I'm confident that when we complete our assigned hours and meetings, my mentee and I will continue to connect and meet for lunch. I encourage my fellow seasoned attorneys to volunteer to be a mentor---it is an enriching experience and you will have a new friend/colleague.” Beth Robb Retired Circuit Judge A mentor must be licensed in the state of Illinois for more than five years. As a mentor you will complete eight meetings with the new lawyer. Upon completion, both the mentor and the mentee will qualify for six hours of professionalism credit CLE credit (at no cost), including the required one hour of diversity and inclusion CLE and one hour of mental health and substance abuse CLE. More information can be found at: www.2civility.org/mentoring. If you are interested in being connected with a mentee and serving as a mentor, please contact one of the MCBA Mentoring Program Co-Coordinators: Angela Skinner or Jaime Ganschow at jganschow@ganschowlaw.com. Sincerely, Jaime R. Ganschow Attorney / Mediator CLE
