It is with great sadness that all of us at Thomson & Weintraub share with you the heartbreaking news of the passing of our dear friend, colleague and business partner Melissa McGrath who lost her battle with cancer last Thursday evening. Melissa was the consummate example of an attorney who practiced law with the upmost integrity, professionalism and dignity. We were so fortunate to have worked with her for the past 23 years. Prior to joining the firm, Melissa served as clerk to Justice James A. Knecht of the Illinois Appellate Court, Fourth District, from 1991 to 1993 and worked for the Office of Guardianship and Advocacy from 1993 to 1995. Melissa was born in 1958 in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Illinois State University with her Bachelor of Science in 1980. In 1991, she received her J.D., cum laude, from Southern Illinois University School of Law. She was a Lead Articles Editor for the Southern Illinois University Law Journal. Melissa was admitted to the Illinois Bar, the U.S. District Court, Central District of Illinois, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Seventh Circuit. She was an active member of the McLean County, Illinois State, and American Bar Associations, as well as the National Employment Lawyer's, Illinois Employment Lawyer's, and American Trial Lawyer's Associations. Melissa will be incredibly missed and well-remembered for her friendship and for her substantial contributions to our firm and to the practice of law.
