court notes
You will notice that the high volume 3rd floor criminal dockets have migrated to Zoom hearings for the majority of those dockets. This massive effort allows those dockets to operate instead of shutting them down. A lot of hard and cooperative work went in to making that possible including Judges, staff, the State’s Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office and others. While there will be kinks in the process and while it may not be as productive as what was done in-person, we are pleased that cases can move forward toward resolution without massive delays should the dockets have been shuttered instead. I would encourage everyone to review the CDC website should you have questions about whether you or someone you know should quarantine and/or test for Covid-19. We are dealing with those questions daily and find it helpful to walk through the website to determine if someone is considered a close a contact and then what quarantine period applies and how long it lasts. I look forward to the days when I can write without Covid-19 as the main topic and I am sure you feel the same way. Hopefully, we can turn the corner on the pandemic and shift our attention to other important issues facing the judicial system. I hope everyone has a safe and happy (as can be under the circumstances) holiday season and a happy New Year. Should you have any questions or concerns on court operations, please contact Trial Court Administrator William Scanlon at (309) 888-5266. Stay safe and healthy. Best regards. Chief Judge Mark A. Fellheimer Daniel Deneen, McLean County Public Guardian, has extra copies of the Illinois Guardianship Association Guardian manuals for your clients. Although the Illinois Guardianship Association will be updating the manuals in 2021, they should still be able to provide some assistance and guidance for your clients. Please contact Dan’s office at 309.663.0555 if you would like him to set aside one or more manuals for you or your clients to pick up at his office. MCBA Lawyer-to-Lawyer Mentoring Program AnnouncementDeveloping strong relationships between new and experienced attorneys in our community is so important to the MCBA. Please consider becoming involved in the Lawyer-to-Lawyer Mentoring Program (sponsored by the MCBA), which is a program created by the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism. We welcome applications from mentors or mentees throughout the year. A mentor must be licensed for more than five years and act as a resource to the mentee. The mentee must be licensed for four years or less. By completing eight mentoring sessions, both mentor and mentee will qualify for six hours of professionalism credit (which can be rolled over to future years). We are looking for new lawyers who would like to be connected with mentors, and experienced lawyers who are willing to serve as mentors. Please contact one of the mentoring program coordinators: Jaime Ganschow at [email protected] or Angela Skinner at [email protected], or visit the following site to fill out an online application at this LINK. mark your calendar2021 January 19 - State of the Circuit CLE noon time event February 3 - Criminal Day Seminar CLE February 16 - CLE noon time event March 16 - CLE noon time event April 21-22 - The Guardian Ad Litem Event June 7 - MCBA Golf Outing at BCC beginning at noon 2020 BLOOMINGTON CANNON ESTATE PLANNING
