“expungement/sealing”
up to 2 HOURs GENERAL CLE [approved]
Guests are welcome to stay for any part of the two hour CLE.
The McLean County Bar Association cordially invites you to attend a presentation about expunging and sealing criminal records in McLean County. Adrian Barr of Prairie State Legal Services will present. The presentation will address the recent changes to the Criminal Identification Act, how to determine if criminal records are eligible for expungement or sealing, completion of the Illinois Supreme Court standardized forms, filing the request with the McLean County Circuit Clerk, and the court procedure after a request is filed. The presentation will also address how the new Cannabis Regulation and Taxation Act (effective January 1, 2020) expands expungement eligibility for people with eligible cannabis related arrests, charges, or convictions.
Beginning in 2017, there have been dramatic changes to the Criminal Identification Act. Expungement and sealing relief is now available to many more people. In 2018, Prairie State Legal Services started a volunteer driven program to help people expunge or seal their old criminal records. Since that time Prairie State Legal Services and its volunteers have helped 67 people expunge or seal 244 criminal records in McLean County.
