As many of you know, we have used the Illinois Supreme Court Order of Protection forms for Stalking No Contact Orders and Civil No Contact Orders in recent years.

We would ask that attorneys begin using the forms provided by the Illinois Supreme Court for Stalking No Contact Orders and Civil No Contact Orders that are filed.  These forms can be found at: https://www.illinoiscourts.gov/documents-and-forms/civil-no-contact-and-stalking-no-contact-orders/.  The law library is making this change as well.

The Adlai E. Stevenson Memorial Lecture Series is named after Bloomington native Adlai E. Stevenson II, former Illinois governor and U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. This event brings innovative and enlightening speakers to Bloomington-Normal campuses to foster community and conversation around the appreciation of learning.

The moderated program, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by audience Q&A.

Goodwin’s career as a historian launched when she was selected as a White House Fellow at age 24, an opportunity that led her to work personally with President Lyndon Johnson both in the White House and later on his memoirs. Her goal is to assist clients in navigating complex divorce matters with empathy, clear communication, and practical legal guidance. Jordan has a passion for family law and has experience handling a plethora of family law matters including dissolution of marriage, child custody, asset division, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, adoptions, and post-decree matters. Jordan also has experience in contract law, negotiation, and civil litigation.

She earned her law degree cum laude from DePaul University College of Law, where she was a Family Law Fellow and received a CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Business Organizations. Jordan also holds a cum laude bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education in History and the Social Sciences from Illinois State University.

Traffic Stops & Motor Vehicles Searches

Presented by: Hon. David Butler (Ret.) & Matthew Butler

[up to 1.5 hours general CLE - Approved]

Evidence of a crime is often found by police during the search of a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. Items found during the search may be illegal contraband, such as drugs or weapons, or evidence of another crime. What starts out as a minor traffic violation can turn into a search of the vehicle to investigate evidence of crimes unrelated to the traffic stop. This CLE program presents an examination of the various legal bases for the police to conduct a motor vehicle search and the possible legal challenges to the search. Attorneys who either defend or prosecute criminal cases involving the possession of contraband will be better able to recognize evidentiary issues related to criminal charges arising out of traffic stops and motor vehicle searches.

TOPICS TO BE COVERED ARE:

Lawful basis of traffic stops
“Out of the Car”  Drivers and Passengers
Search of Persons in the Vehicle
Search of Vehicles
Probable Cause Searches
Dog Sniffs
Odor of Cannabis
Search Incident to Arrest
Parole Searches
Inventory Searches
Consent Searches
Motions To Suppress Evidence

The cost is $20.00.

Below are comments shared from attendees evaluations...
It was an excellent presentation highlighting pitfalls for the unwary.

With ISBA insurance withdrawing their cybersecurity coverage, I will need to look into other insurance. This presentation assisted in learning areas of inquiry when looking for this kind of insurance.
