The Illinois State University Psychology Department invites MCBA members to meet Dan Diaz during his visit to Bloomington. Dan will be available to meet with members of the MCBA in downtown Bloomington at 8:00 AM and at 11:00 AM on October 11. Dan's wife Brittany Maynard was diagnosed with an aggressive, terminal brain tumor while they were living in California. At that time, California did not have a medical aid-in-dying law so they moved to Oregon to take advantage of Oregon's Death with Dignity Act. Since that time, Dan has been involved in medical aid-in-dying legislation in several states including California's End of Life Option Act that went into effect in 2016. Some form of medical aid-in-dying or dying with dignity is now legal in Oregon, Washington, Montana, California, Colorado, Vermont and the District of Columbia. Dan has a wealth of information and experience with this topic. He has worked on the legal issues and challenges associated with both Advance Directives and securing legislation for medical aid-in-dying. Mr. Diaz would be available for both individual and group discussion. If you would like to meet Dan Diaz on October 11, please RSVP by email to Doug Lamb with the session that you plan to attend (8:00 AM and/or 11:00 AM) at dhlamb@ilstu.edu and Doug will provide you with meeting details. ISU Mock Trial Tournament - November 17-19, 2017: Judges Needed!
The Illinois State University Mock Trial Program is sponsoring its 16th annual Invitational Mock Trial Tournament at the McLean County Law & Justice Center on the weekend of November 17-19, 2017. The program’s head attorney coach, Scott Kording, sent e-mail invitations to many members of the Bar Association asking for volunteer mock trial judges/evaluators.
If you did not receive an invitation, or if you are aware of another attorney who may be interested in volunteering, then please see the accompanying general invitation from Mr. Kording. If you have any questions, you can reach him at SKording@MeyerCapel.com. Announcement from the Illinois Supreme Court The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice is pleased to announce it has approved updated Adult Expungement and Sealing forms. To find all approved forms, please visit the Supreme Court’s website: http://www.illinoiscourts.gov/Forms/approved/default.asp
The newly available forms were changed in two significant ways: (1) combining the request for expungement and sealing into one form because a petitioner can now seek expungement and sealing at the same time for applicable offenses; and (2) reflecting the recent changes in the law—specifically expansions to the Criminal Record Identification Act, 20 ILCS 2630/5.2—that increase the number of offenses that may be sealed under Illinois law. Please share the great news about these newly available forms with your networks and in your communities. Thank you for all you do in furthering access to justice initiatives in Illinois. 2017 Bloomington Cannon Estate Planning Teleconference Series Program
