Jeff Crabill, an in-house corporate attorney at State Farm, has been volunteering with Prairie State since 2014. He has handled pro bono divorce cases, volunteered at our semi-annual Legal Advice Fair and Prairie State’s new Saturday Criminal Record Relief Clinic. So far, this year he has helped 20 people get their criminal records sealed so that they can improve their employment and housing.

Bruce Zyweic is a retired McLean County Assistant State’s Attorney and Illinois State Policeman. After retiring from McLean County, he began to volunteer in-house one day a week with Prairie State’s expungement & sealing program. His experience and expertise as both policeman and prosecutor make him uniquely qualified for this work. He has provided life changing services to dozens of clients seeking to expunge or seal their criminal records.

Section 1983: Litigating Constitutional Rights
Please join the McLean County Bar Association for a presentation on Section 1983. Mr. Thomas McClure, J.D., M.S. will be leading this one hour CLE on the statutory cause of action used to seek relief for violations of federal constitutional rights. Victims of excessive force often file §1983 actions against police officers. Other litigants have relied on this cause of action to challenge state laws and local ordinances on constitutional grounds. For example, several Minnesota voters successfully brought a §1983 suit in which they made a First Amendment challenge to a law forbidding persons from wearing clothing promoting political issues when they are at the polls.
Mr. McClure is the Director of Legal Studies and an Associate Professor of Politics and Government at Illinois State University.
