prairie state legal services
lifesaver awards
Every year since 2008 Prairie State Legal Services has presented the Lifesaver awards to three attorneys or paralegals whose pro bono work goes above and beyond. The Awards are given to local attorneys and paralegals that have given their time working on multiple cases, attending pro bono clinics, serving as presenters at our CLE programs and representing us in committees regarding pro bono services.
Matthew Butler. Matt was an active pro bono volunteer while he was an associate at Allison & Mosby-Scott. He currently works in the McLean County Public Deferder's Office after recently leaving AMS. Matt took potentially contested divorce cases from PSLS. Most of them were straightforward and he resolved them quickly. However, in one case he logged 50 hours to resolve the divorce favorably for his client. Emily Petri, Christopher Jackson and Stacy James
Dean Davis. Dean also works in State Farm’s Law Department and has been volunteering with PSLS since 2021. When the eviction moratorium ended in 2021, a large number of evictions were filed in about two months. The volume of new tenants needing assistance was too high for PSLS staff to serve, and State Farm attorneys provided the help we needed. Dean helped to present an Eviction CLE to State Farm employees to provide training and recruit new volunteers for our clinic. In addition to assisting with our evection clinics, Dean also volunteers at our expungement & sealing clinics. |

Christopher Jackson. Christopher is an attorney in State Farm’s Law Department. The first time he volunteered with PSLS was just over a year ago at an expungement & sealing clinic staffed by State Farm volunteers. Since that clinic, Christopher has attended all the expungement & sealing clinics, and he also attends our eviction clinic monthly. Over the past year Christopher has helped 24 clients. Christopher also recruits other State Farm employees to volunteer for their first time. Emily Petri, Dean Davis and Stacy James
