Law & Justice Center Guidelines for all Visitors
added 2-6-2024
Please know that each person will be required to pass through security. This means that it may take a while for each team and visitors to come through the line. I'm not sure that we have had this requirement in years past. This will take time.
With that said, please know that the doors open at 8:00 am. You are welcome to come any time after that. I encourage you to come early if your schedule allows. More details to come on check-in.

* No videos, pictures, texting, social media use, etc.
* If a school Administrator/Teacher wants to video some of the trials, that can be the only an exception.

The Mock Trial tournament will be held in 3rd, 4th and 5th floor courtrooms of the Law & Justice Center located at 104 W. Front Street, Bloomington, Illinois.
There is an important note that this year it is imperative to monitor the round time closely so that each team has an equal chance.
There will be a Coach gathering during lunch break. This will likely be in the 5th floor jury assembly room. This is the same room as the Coaches/Team Leader meeting. This will be an informal space for coaches to gather with other coaches. If Coaches are supervising their teams, there is space in this room to gather for lunch for a few teams only. Lunch for Coaches will not be provided as there is not a budget for this. There will be a space for you to meet though.
Thank you for all you do for the students!

Appellate Court Oral Argument at ISU - April 17, 2024
Appellate Court to Hold Oral Argument at Illinois State
The Illinois Appellate Court for the Fourth Judicial District will hold oral argument at the Braden Auditorium in the Student Bone Center on the morning of April 17, 2024. This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Politics & Government and the McLean County Bar Association.
The Fourth District is based in Springfield. This judicial body considers appeals filed in trial courts from 41 counties including Rock Island, Winnebago, Sangamon, and McLean Counties. The court typically rules on over 5,000 cases per year.
This is the third time that the Fourth District held oral argument at Illinois State University. The first time was more than a decade ago, and the last time was spring 2023.
Students enrolled in the advanced legal research and writing class offered in the Legal Studies Program will be given assignments based on the case set for argument. Although the court has not announced which case it will hear at ISU, it is expected to be a criminal appeal.
This event is open to the public. All spectators will be required to go through metal detectors. Persons attending will not be allowed to bring backpacks into the auditorium. Cell phones must be turned off.
